DescriptionThe Puchack Well Field (PWF) site was one of several primary water supply sources for the City of Camden, Camden County, New Jersey. In the past, practices of handling and discharging hazardous substances by various nearby commercial and industrial facilities resulted in contamination of the underlying Potomac-Raritan-Magothy (PRM) aquifer, which the Puchack Well Field utilized. The contamination subsequently spread to the other five supply wells at the PWF. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has begun a Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) to determine the scope of contamination, identify sources, and design possible remedial alternatives. This Public Health Assessment evaluates existing groundwater, well field, and drinking water distribution system data, human exposure pathways, and the potential public health issues related to the PWF site.
